Abstract:

This research investigates the problem about re-configuring feeders of electrical distribution system, while several renewable distributed generators are connected to the medium voltage network. Reconfiguration should be done when renewable distributed generators such as wind turbines, photovoltaic cells or mini hydro directly connected to the grid. Those connections can affect the power flows and the voltage level on busses near the generators. Harmony Search Algorithm (HSA) is proposed to solve the network re-configuration problem to get optimal switching combination in the network. It uses a stochastic random search instead of a gradient search which eliminates the need for derivative information. Simulations are carried out on 33-bus radial network of IEEE test system and engaged with an analysis of power flow method called BIBC-BCBV (Bus Injection to Branch Current – Branch Current to Bus Voltage). The PSO (Particle Swarm Optimization) method is used to determine the value of reactive power injected by generator while operating in PV-bus mode. The simulations can obtain not only the new optimal configurations very fast but also the evidences that objectively proving the power losses resulted by those new configurations is minimum.
