Abstract:

Bioethanol is one of promising renewable energy. Bioethanol can be produced from lignocellulosic material such as agricultural materials that was abundantly found in Indonesia and it was not optimally utilized. Three major steps to produce bioethanol from lignocellulosic materials, they are hydrolysis process, fermentation process, and separation process. The ethanol yield that was obtained from fermentation process relatively small because any impurities that was generated from hydrolysis process. Detoxification-fermentation process was done to reduce impurities. There are four major steps in detoxification-fermentation process: bases detoxification, flocculation and adsorption process, sterilization process, and the lastest step was fermentation. Detoxification process was done in a heated stirred reactor. 16.65 grams alumminium sulphate was added in 1 litre hydrolysates in detoxification flocculation process. Flocculation process could increase ethanol yiled from 2.1% to 2.2511%. 2.5 grams carbon active was added in detoxification adsorption process. It could increase ethanol yield from 2.1% to 2.2154%. Compunding flocculation and adsorption process in detoxification step could increase ethanol yield from 2.1% to 7.38%. It showed that detoxification-fermentation process was better than fermentation process without detoxification process.
