Abstract:

The aim of this research was to find the effect of density on particle board made of 3 different kinds of sawdust (mahoni, teak, glugu) to its conductivity thermal coefficient. From those data, then, we could make a comparison which one was the best isolator.
For the first step, the 3 different kinds of particle board were made with density ratio 1 : 5, 1 : 4 and 1 : 3. Nine nodes, as the temperature measurement locations, were marked on one side of the board. Other side of board was gummed on aluminum plate that has been known its conductivity thermal coefficient. Other side of plate was marked nine nodes across nodes of the board. Then each board was put into testing box one by one. A bulb was attached in the testing box as heat source. Hence, conductivity thermal coefficient could be counted.
From the calculation result, particle board made of mahoni sawdust with density ratio 1 : 3 had the smallest conductivity thermal coefficient (the best isolator), followed by particle board made of teak sawdust with density 1 : 2.67. But particle board that had the biggest conductivity thermal coefficient was board made of mahoni sawdust with density ratio 1 : 2.67, followed by board made
of glugu sawdust with density ratio 1 : 2.5.
