Abstract:

Welding at Mild Steel pipe using MIG weld (Metal Inert Gas arc Welding) should be always considering the use of electric current and choose the right of gas pressure. The purpose of this research with the using of JIS G 3445 pipe is to choose the right of gas pressure and current in the MIG welding (Metal Inert Gar arc Welding).. The purpose of welding process at the JIS G 3445 mild steel pipe with the variation of electric current and gas pressure against the pull force is to determine the effect of welding with variation of electric current and gas pressure against the pull force at the material of JIS G 3445 mild steel pipe, with MIG (Metal Inert Gar arc Welding) welding methods, the test include the physics that is micro structure, and the mechanics that is pull force and hardness value at each of the base metal area, area of HAZ metal, area of metal weld border and area of weld metal.
Basically the effect of the welding temperature at the pipe is resulting on voltage dropping. It can be look at the pipe before welding process (base metal), which it has average voltage 35,66 kg/mm2 . In this research, current which is used are 100 ampere, 110 ampere, 120 ampere. And the gas pressure is 6 kg/cm2 and 12 kg/cm2. After the welding process using current variation and different gas pressure then at pull testing the result is broken at the base metal and the pull voltage value is 35,66 kg/mm2. At the Rockwell hardness testing before welding process (base metal) it is gained the average of hardness value at the pipe is 40,7 ± 0,72 % HRC. It shown that hardness value at each of test has hardness value which is relatively the same.
From the result of looking at micro structure photo it was gained that structure which is consisted in the pipe has perlit and ferit, because the cooling is use the air. At micro structure testing, more the ferit rate inside the object, the object will be more resilient and more the perlit rate the object will be more fragile.
