Abstract:

The side product of coconut plantation in Indonesia is coconut fiber which along that time only used as products such as doormat, broom, etc. Therefore, it needs to do the study to increase the addition value of it, where coconut fiber as the side product of coconut plantation exported to other countries to be used by them to be particle board or other products.
For increasing addition value of coconut fiber, it was done the study of making particle board from raw material of coconut fiber by using copal glue as a binder.
This study used a mix between coconut fiber and copal glue in comparison 1:5 and 1:6 with the comparison of compression was 4:1.
The testing which was done to know physic and mechanic characters of this particle board were density and static bending test to obtain Modulus of Elasticity (MOE) and Modulus of Rupture (MOR).
The density testing shows that particle board with fiber comparison 1:6 has little density, whereas the result of bending test for MOE is 1:5 =64.2672kg/mm2 ; 1:6 = 89.2009 kg/mm2, and the result of bending test MOR is 1:5 = 2.4555 kg/mm2 ; 1:6 = 1.7513 kg/mm2.
