Abstract:

The use of chemical fertilizers is not balanced organic fertilizer can damage the soil. Chemical fertilizers can damage the balance of nutrients in the soil and can reduce soil pH. Conventional waste treatment takes a long time, causing the accumulation of organic waste. it is necessary to research to be able to manage waste effectively.
This study wanted to learn the process of making compost from organic waste by fermentation using EM4. This process is done through two stages, namely the preparation phase includes the preparation of the raw materials and the manufacture of organic waste starter EM4 and composting stage the raw materials are mixed and placed in a sealed container in a dark room so that the process of anaerobic composting.
This research want to know the optimal process conditions to obtain the maximum results in terms of quality and quantity. The analysis was conducted on the analysis of water content, carbon content, nitrogen content, C / N ratio, levels of heavy metals, micro-level elements, the levels of total P2O5, K2O, pH and test plants. By using the optimum process conditions (0.5% EM4 concentration, process temperature 400C, sizing 0.0356 cm (-30/+40 mesh) and 0.8% sugar concentration obtained at 3 days of composting and compost produced meets the quality standards compost as stipulated in Agriculture, No:2/Pert/HK.060/2/2006.
