Abstract:

Green image attached to natural fibers, paving the way for natural fibers for innovation and product development. Natural fibers as reinforcement composites have many advantages, such as the replacement of artificial fibers, low price, able to muffle the sound, environmentally friendly, have low density, and high mechanical ability, which can meet the needs of the industry. The purpose of this study is to investigate the performance improvement of the bending strength of composite sandwich of polyester fiber with core palm-tree bar banana trees with varying amounts lamina. The study was conducted with the main ingredient of palm fiber, matrix 157 BQTN Polyester type and G3253T, MEKPO catalyst, accelerator Cobalt naphtenate, max way, wax/mirror, and core waste banana tree bar. The equipment used is bending test equipment, digital scales, microscopes micro, macro photo and composite fabrication equipment. The test specimen is a composite made of sandwich type, with hand lay-up method. The number of laminae at the top layer is 1, 2 and 3 layers of palm fibers, while the bottom layer is the first layer of palm fiber. Layer structure and fabrication of composite sandwich measuring 0.4 mx 0.6 m. The results showed that the greater number of sandwich composite lamina resulted bendingnya strength also increased. Bending strength fiber composite sandwich core palm-tree bar polyeser the banana tree is directly proportional to the amount of additional variation given lamina. While the results of the cross-sectional analysis of fault that occurred starting from the surface of the skin which then runs to the core is generally dominated by brittle fracture in the matrix form of polyester.
