Abstract:

The finding of non-productive activities and physical fatigue as measured both subjectively (Borg-scale) and objectively (% heart rate reserve) in assembly station PT X, was one of failure cause to achieve prodiction target. To meet company target, worker whether on shift 1 or shift 2 had to work overtime, thereby causing heavy workload. Field observations using economic motion principle and motion study principle were found ineffective of motion and work which cause unproductive activities.
This study aims to identify unproductive activities and propose ergonomics intervention to reduce workers physical workload. Identification of productive-nonproductive activities using worksampling to calculate the percentage. It was obtained 15 productive activities and 20 nonproductive activities. Then intervention was proposed and implemented based on engineering control and administrative control. The proposal were changing in operation process chart (OPC), addition of basket and enforcing rule of discipline. Result of implementation showed the percentage productive activities increased by 25.14 % on shift 1 and 8.78% in shift 2.
